Peru’s exports top USD 33 billion from January to May

Exportaciones de Perú superan USD 33.000 millones en periodo enero-mayo

Peru’s exports reached USD 33.41 billion from January to May this year, up 22.3% compared to the same period in 2024, according to the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur). This growth was driven by a higher export volume (+10.8%) and better international prices (+10.4%).

“In May alone, our exports grew by 13%, marking 13 consecutive months of growth. We are confident that, with coordinated efforts between the public and private sectors, and by providing training and technical support to our businesses, we will achieve a new record of over USD 77 billion by the end of 2025”, said Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister Desilú Leon Chempen.

The fishing sector posted the highest growth in the first five months of the year, with exports totaling USD 2.036 billion, a 58.4% increase over the same period last year. The most dynamic products were squid (+232%), anchovy derivatives (+51.6%), flying fish roe (+30%), shrimp (+14%), and canned fish (+12.1%).

Agriculture also performed well, with exports reaching USD 4.578 billion (+24.1%), driven by higher shipments of cocoa (+77%), both beans and butter, as well as palm oil (+33%), fruits (+26%) such as grapes, avocados, and mangoes, and vegetables (+12%) like asparagus.

In mining, exports totaled USD 21.996 billion (+22.4%), with notable increases in silver concentrates (+81%), gold (+43%), zinc (+22%), and copper (+18%). The metals sector also showed solid growth, with copper products up (+43%) and zinc ingots (+19.3%).

Between January and May 2025, overall exports rose by 22.3% thanks to strong growth from regions outside Lima and Callao (+22.9%), outpacing the capital (+19.2%). The top performing regions included Huanuco (+286%), Amazonas (+147%), Apurimac (+84%), Ayacucho (+78%), Junin (+77%), San Martin (+74%), Lambayeque (+54%), Ucayali (+51%), Cajamarca (+48%), Puno (+44%), Madre de Dios (+32%), Pasco (+27%), Piura (+25%), Tacna (+24%), Moquegua (+20%), Loreto (+16%), Arequipa (+12%), La Libertad (+6%), Ica (+6%), and Ancash (+5%).

“This growth is no coincidence. It is the result of the joint efforts of our regions, our producers, and our companies. Peru is strengthening its position as a diverse, resilient, and competitive export powerhouse”, Minister Leon concluded.
